Lakeside is a charming community just east of Santee between the 67 and 8 freeways in East County, San Diego. Most of the estimated 20,000 that call Lakeside home appreciate the country lifestyle. The commute to Downtown San Diego is approximately 30 minutes, and heading west to sea level you will lose between 400 and 1100 feet of elevation. Lake Lindo is the namesake body of water where the community began. It is the only natural freshwater lake in San Diego created by runoff from the nearby mountains.
Though the increases in population have brought big name stores to Lakeside, giving the residents modern amenities, it remains a town known for a laid back, slower pace.
In accord with the country lifestyle, many Lakeside homeowners keep horses on their property. Most lots are spacious and accommodate single level, ranch style homes as well as manufactured and mobile home opportunities. Lakeside communities include Finn Springs, Winter Gardens, and Eucalyptus Hills. There are many affordable homes in Lakeside, as well as larger, custom homes that easily eclipse the million dollar mark.
Lakeside offers its residents many recreational activities with many outdoor activities to take advantage of the favorable year round climate. Boating, fishing, horseback riding and bird watching are hobbies afforded to locals by the community parks and 4 lakes. There are also more traditional sports, such as baseball, softball, tennis and more. The community center located next to the Lake Lindo County Park offers additional recreation as well as programs for young adults and seniors which include computer classes, karate, and driver training.
Lakeside is home to the Maine Avenue Street Dance and Spirit of Christmas events that give the town an opportunity to come together.
Lakeside is most well known locally as the home to the annual Lakeside Rodeo. The event brings top rodeo riders from across the country to compete. The Western Days Parade is a local favorite and part of the Rodeo events.
