Oceanside is San Diego County’s northern most beach community. Covering several miles of coast, over 170,000 residents make Oceanside the 3rd largest city in the county. Orange County is to the north, though directly north of Oceanside is Camp Pendleton. The population from Camp Pendleton contributes over $2 billion to the local economy annually and employs thousands of civilians. Located to the east are Bonsall, Vista and San Marcos, Carlsbad is to the South. Downtown San Diego is approximately 35 miles away, about 30 minutes driving.
Oceanside offers some of the most affordable beach community real estate in North County. There is plenty of room to expand eastward, and Oceanside has been doing just that. More traditional suburban neighborhoods can be found to the east, with older bungalow homes and condos closer to waters edge. Some of the homes to the east lie on mesas offering coastal and sunset views.
The Coast Highway runs through Downtown Oceanside where there is dining, vintage shops and a surf museum that represent local culture.
The Oceanside Harbor is home to over 1,000 fishing boats and yachts, where many can be found heading out to see to take advantage of terrific sport fishing.
Recreational activities include traditional sports such as baseball, football and soccer as well as beach influenced activities like surfing. The Harbor jetty’s offer excellent surfing, as does the Oceanside pier.
Six local elementary schools have been nominated for the distinguished school award, a statewide honor.
